Generally, a Bartholin gland cyst doesn’t cause any symptoms, unless it gets large or infected, in which case, a patient will experience the following symptoms:Bartholin - Gland - cyst - Causes - Diagnosis - Treatment - Best Doctor - Dr - Qaisar - Ahmed - Dixe - cosmetics

  • Redness
  • Tenderness
  • A sensation of heat from the area
  • pain during sexual activity
  • Fever
  • Rupturing and leakage

Bartholin Gland Cyst – Cause

Sometimes, these glands get blocked, leading to a pea size or marble to the size of an egg, which is called a Bartholin gland cyst. Cysts are not sexually transmitted, though sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis or other bacterial infections can cause the cysts to become infected and become abscesses.

The Bartholin glands make the fluid, but it travels to the vagina through ducts. When these ducts get blocked, the fluid rushes back, causing swelling, and/or cysts. They are generally non-cancerous.

The infection that causes cysts could be because of the bacteria that causes E. coli. It could also result from bacteria, which cause sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) {happen in rare cases} for example :

  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which causes gonorrhoea, is a disease that is transmissible via sexual contact
  • Chlamydia trachomatis, which causes chlamydia
  • Escherichia coli, which can affect the water supply and cause hemorrhagic colitis
  • Streptococcus pneumonia, which can cause pneumonia and middle ear infections
  • Haemophilus influenza, which can cause ear infections and respiratory infections

Allopathic treatment for Bartholin Gland cysts

According to allopathic theory, if the cyst causes no signs or symptoms, there is no need for any treatment. When needed, treatment depends on the size of the cyst, patient’s discomfort level and whether it’s infected, which can result in an abscess.

Treatment options may include:

  • Sitz baths. Soaking in a tub filled with a few inches of warm water (sitz bath) several times a day for three or four days may help a small, infected cyst to rupture and drain on its own.
  • Surgical drainage. It’s may need surgery to drain a cyst that’s infected or very large. Drainage of a cyst can be done using local anesthesia or sedation (makes a small incision in the cyst, allows it to drain, and then places a small rubber tube/catheter in the incision. The catheter stays in place for up to six weeks to keep the incision open and allow complete drainage).
  • Antibiotics. Doctor may prescribe an antibiotic if patient’s cyst is infected or if testing reveals that patient have a sexually transmitted infection.
  • Marsupialization. If cysts recur or bother patient, a marsupialization (mahr-soo-pee-ul-ih-ZAY-shun) procedure may help. The doctor places stitches on each side of a drainage incision to create a permanent opening less than 1/4-inch (about 6-millimeter) long. An inserted catheter may be placed to promote drainage for a few days after the procedure and to help prevent recurrence.

Rarely, for persistent cysts that aren’t effectively treated by the above procedures, a doctor may recommend surgery under general anesthesia, to remove the Bartholin’s gland.Bartholin's gland abscess - rectovaginal fistula - Bartholin - Gland - cyst - Causes - Diagnosis - Treatment - Best Doctor - Dr - Qaisar - Ahmed - Dixe - cosmetics

P.S: Surgical removal of the Bartholin Gland Cyst carries a greater risk of bleeding, Cancers and/or other complications after the procedure.

Antibiotics are given if the Bartholin gland cyst is infected or the patient has STD. Some topical medications could also be given. These are to apply to the skin. Other than these, treatment won’t be needed if a patient is below the age of 40 and the cyst doesn’t cause any problems.

If a patient has fever or chills, swelling, or drainage from the cyst. Pain during sex or walking is the sign that the cyst gets large, it can make the affected side of the labia majora larger than the other. This could be very serious case.

Homeopathic treatment for Bartholin gland cysts
