What Causes Brucellosis?

Brucellosis in humans occurs when a person comes into contact with an animal or animal product infected with the Brucella bacteria.

• Through a cut or scratch in the skin
• Contaminated air (very rare)
•  Eat or drink something contaminated with the bacteria. (such as unpasteurized milk or undercooked meat, eggs etc)

There are four types of Brucella bacteria cause the majority of brucellosis infections in humans:

Brucella Melitensis

This type causes most cases of human brucellosis and is mainly found in sheep and goats. It is most often seen in:

• Spain
• Greece
• Latin America
• Middle East
• India

Brucella Suis

This infection found in wild pigs is the most common type of Brucella seen in the U.S. Brucellosis due to this strain most often occurs in the Southeast and California. It also occurs in Europe, South America, and Southeast Asia especially in India.

Brucella Canis

The infection from this type of bacteria spreads from dogs. It is most often seen in:

• North, Central, and South America
• Japan
• Central Europe

Brucella Abortus. This infection comes from cattle. It occurs worldwide. It has been wiped out in several European countries, Japan, Israel, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Dogs can become infected with Brucella Canis, but the disease is usually mild. There is at least one known case of brucellosis spreading to a human by a dog bite.

One could be infected from dog if he/she come in contact with blood or other fluids from the animal; that’s why veterinarians have an increased risk of brucellosis.

Risk Factors for Brucellosis

Symptoms of Brucellosis

General symptoms of brucellosis are often vague and similar to the flu. They may include:

• Fever (the most common symptom, with high “spikes” that usually occur in the afternoon)
• Back pain
• Body-wide aches and pains
• Poor appetite and weight loss
• Headache
• Night sweats
• Weakness
• Abdominal pain
• Cough

Incubation period that is symptoms usually appear within five to 30 days after contact with the infected animal, person or any other source.

How bad your symptoms are depends on type of Brucella:

• Brucella Abortus usually causes mild or moderate symptoms, but they are more likely to become chronic (long-lasting).
• Brucella Canis symptoms may come and go having symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea along with temperature, body aches, lumbalgia, night sweats, weakness and poor appetite.
• Brucella Suis may cause areas of infection (abscesses) in different organs/places.
• Brucella Melitensis may cause sudden and severe symptoms, which may lead to disability.

How Is Brucellosis Diagnosed?

Brucella infections have following symptomes:

• Hepatomegaly (liver swelling)
• Swollen lymph nodes
• splenomegaly (swollen spleen)
• Unexplained fever
• Joint swelling and pain
• Body rashes

Blood tests will be done to diagnose the infection and determine what type of Brucella is the cause of sickness (Proper identification of the bacteria helps pinpoint the source of the infection).

How Is Brucellosis Treated?

Allopathically Brucellosis can be difficult to treat, Antibiotics commonly used in allopathic drugs for 6-8 weeks to treat brucellosis, for example:

• doxycycline
• streptomycin
• ciprofloxacin
• rifampin
• sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim
• tetracycline

Severe bones pain, fever 102-104C, Respiratory tract infection (s), flu with temperature, bronchitis, skin infections, granulomatous, erythema.

Becillus Calmette-200/1M:

Flu like symptoms –  temperature sometimes high fever malaise and anorexia, Chill, nausea/vomiting (liver involvement), osteomyelitis (body/bones pains), body or a part burning, hypotension, severe bronchitis and even pneumonia, inflammation, granulomatous, leukoplakia, peeling and/or scaling of skin, erythema nodosum, red papules, abscesses, night sweats.

Dose – highest potencies yield brilliant results. Low attenuations in gastric, intestinal, and kidney diseases; higher in neuralgias, nervous diseases, and skin. But if only surface conditions call for it, give the lowest potencies, 2x to 3x trit. Repeated doses advisable.

ANTHRACINUM {Dr. Qaisar Ahmed MD, DHMS} :

ECHINACEA ANGUSTIFOLIA {Dr. Qaisar Ahmed MD, DHMS} :

Remarkable medicine as a “corrector of blood dyscrasia”. Acute auto-infection. Symptoms of blood poisoning, septic conditions generally. Diarrhoea in typhoid. Gonorrhoea. Boils. Erysipelas and foul ulcers. Gangrene.

Albuminous, scanty, frequent, and involuntary.

LACHESIS MUTUS {Dr. Qaisar Ahmed MD, DHMS} :

Muscles too weak to maintain focus, Bleeding, nostrils sensitive. Coryza, preceded by headache. Hay asthma; paroxysms of sneezing, Trifacial facial neuralgia.

Gums swollen, spongy, bleed. Tongue swollen, burns, trembles, red, dry and cracked at tip, catches on teeth. Aphthous and denuded spots with burning and rawness. Nauseous taste. Teeth ache, pain extends to ears. Pain in facial bones.

Throat sore, worse left side, swallowing liquids. Quinsy. Septic parotiditis. Dry, intensely swollen, externally and internally. Diphtheria; membrane dusky, blackish; pain aggravated by hot drinks; chronic sore throat, with much hawking; mucus sticks, and cannot be forced up or down. Very painful; worse slightest pressure, touch is even more annoying. In diphtheria, etc, the trouble began on the left side. Tonsils purplish.

Pit of stomach painful to touch, Liver region sensitive, cannot bear anything around waist, Abdomen tympanitic, sensitive, painful.

Female – Climacteric troubles, palpitation, flashes of heat, haemorrhages,  pains all relieved by the flow, Mammae inflamed, bluish. Coccyx and sacrum pain, especially on rising from sitting posture.

Sensation of suffocation and strangulation on lying down, particularly when anything is around throat, Cramp-like distress in praecordial region. Cough; dry, suffocative fits, tickling. Little secretion and much sensitiveness; worse, pressure on larynx, after sleep, open air.

Neuralgia of coccyx, worse rising from sitting posture; must sit perfectly still. Pain in neck, worse cervical region.

Skin – Hot perspiration, bluish, purplish appearance. Boils, carbuncles, ulcers, with bluish, purple surroundings. Dark blisters. Bed-sores, with black edges. Blue-black swellings. Pyemia; dissecting wounds. Purpura, with intense prostration. Senile erysipelas. Wens. Cellulitis. Varicose ulcers.

Relationship.–Antidotes: Ars; Merc; Heat; Alcohol; Salt.

Compare: Cotyledon (climacteric troubles); Nat m; Nit ac; Crotal; Amphisboena -snake lizard–(right jaw swollen and painful, lancinating pains; headaches, lancinating pains. Eruption of vesicles and pimples); Naja; Lepidium.

Dose – Eighth to 200th potency. Doses ought not be repeated too frequently. If well indicated, a single dose should be allowed to exhaust its action.

What Are the Complications of Brucellosis?

Severe brucellosis may cause:

• Infection of the central nervous system
• Endocarditis (infection of the lining of the heart or valves)
• Liver abscess
