General information
Every person loses 50 to 100 hairs every day. The hair lives on the head from 3 to 7 years. 90% of the hairs on the head are actively growing, the remaining 10% are at rest.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!This phase lasts from 2 to 6 months, after which the hair falls out.
Usually, hair does not become thinner with age, but sometimes new hair does not grow in place of the fallen hair. This process can begin as early as early adulthood.
Alopecia areata (focal) baldness (alopecia):
Alopecia areata is a disease in which smooth round spots remain in place of the fallen hair. At the same time, the scalp looks normal (no dandruff , scars and ulcers).
Causes of Hair loss or Hair Fall
- Aging process;
- Heredity (bald men and women in the family);
- Hormonal imbalance (for example, in women after childbirth or during menopause);
- Hair damage (coloring, drying, perm);
- Head trauma ;
- Damage to the scalp;
- Bacterial and fungal infections, autoimmune diseases;
- Some allopathic drugs (medications) can cause reversible hair loss (hypertension medications, anticoagulants , antidepressants, arthritis and gout medications). Radiation and chemotherapy in oncological diseases causes hair loss in 90% of patients.
- Birth control pills.
- Stress: physical, emotional and neuropsychic.
Other causes of alopecia include:
- Thyroid disease;
- Infections, surgery, high fever;
- Systemic lupus erythematosus;
- Fungal infections (dermatomycosis, ringworm);
- Malnutrition;
- Wrong hairstyles (tight braids and tails).
In some cases, hair loss is observed within 3 months from the date of childbirth, surgery or severe illness.
It is recommended to see a doctor if you have hair loss that may be due to allopathic drugs/medication, or if your hair loss is accompanied by pain, inflammation and tenderness of the scalp, scaling, scabs, ulcers or pus on the scalp, or if your eyebrows and eyelashes are falling out; or hair loss elsewhere on the body.
What can you do?
If hair loss is due to heredity or aging, it is almost impossible to prevent or reverse it. Take good care of your hair (use balm, conditioner, comb with sparse teeth, dye and dry your hair as little as possible, avoid perm).
Do not pull hair, do not pull it into a hairstyle (braids, tails, buns).
While there is no product that is guaranteed to stop hair loss, you can try minoxidil, an over-the-counter drug that helps about a third of patients regrow hair. However, discontinuing the drug may cause regrown hair to fall out.
Use wigs, hairpieces, etc. if you are concerned about your appearance.
See your doctor if you suspect that your hair loss is related to a serious disorder in your body.
